hbase shell on client and server(cluster) show different tables

I have installed the MapR client on my CentOS dev box and pointing this box at the MapR sandbox single node cluster. I have hbase master and regionserver running on cluster

Can anyone explain to me why the `hbase shell: list` command shows the M7 tables when run on the cluster but shows the Hbase tables when run from the client?  This is confusing.

Obviously MapR folks have wired the Hbase shell for M7 use however Id like to know explicitly which it is wired to which and how I can re-wire it if I want to edit either M7 or Hbase tables explicitly?
