I have recently installed a 5 node M3 cluster for evaluation, the configure.sh ran OK and stated that the pre-reqs had been met.

When I attempt to start the HBase-Master which runs the underlying script [/opt/mapr/hbase/hbase-0.94.5/bin/hbase-daemon.sh it errors stating the following.

Error: JAVA_HOME is not set and Java could not be found

All indications are that Java is installed as required.

java -version returns

[mapr@maprhost3 ~]$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_25"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (rhel-2.3.10.4.el5_9-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.7-b01, mixed mode)

and which java returns retuens what I would expect and can be followed down to the java JDK

[mapr@maprhost3 ~]$ which java
/usr/bin/java
[mapr@maprhost3 ~]$ ls -al /usr/bin/java
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Jun 24 09:54 /usr/bin/java -> /etc/alternatives/java
[mapr@maprhost3 ~]$ ls -al /etc/alternatives/java
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 46 Jun 26 05:53 /etc/alternatives/java -> /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.7.0-openjdk.x86_64/bin/java

Advise regarding this would be appreciated as the error is becoming very frustrating.
