Few nodes, many disks

We´re planning a MapR cluster to store video/audio files for media streaming.

Instead of setting up a cluster with many small nodes, we were thinking if a smaller cluster with a lot of disks on each node would be more cost effective and easier to maintain.

Considering a cluster with 4 servers having the following hardware specs each:

 - 128GB DDR3
 - 12x 4TB SAS HDD RAID5 = 44TB
 - 2x Intel Xeon E5-2609 (quadcore) 2.40 GHz

Being each server split into 2 VMs.

This cluster would have a total of 176TB. If we set the volume replication ratio to 2, that´d give us 88TB of usable space.

Any thoughts if that´d be a good idea?
