Any downsides of setting MAPR_SUBNETS?

MapR typically detects and uses all NICs for high performance clusters, and as per the docs:

*If you do not want MapR to use all NICs on each node, use the environment variable MAPR_SUBNETS to restrict MapR traffic to specific NICs.
If MAPR_SUBNETS is not set, MapR uses all NICs present on the node.*

**So the question is, does setting this variable have any downside? e.g. performance.**
