Simple question but haven't been able to find answer so far --

Using Hadoop 0.20.203 on linux box. I have a class that extends org.apache.hadoop.mapreduce.Mapper, and in this class I have:
protected void map(LongWritable lineNum, Text line, Context context) throws IOException, InterruptedException { ... }
I have no reducer.

What I don't understand is, whenever an IOException is thrown from the map() method, the job.isSuccessful() call still returns "true". The "job" is created like:
org.apache.hadoop.mapreduce.Job job = new Job(config, jobName);
...
Boolean complete = job.waitForCompletion(true);
Boolean success = job.isSuccessful();

TIA
