mapred.local.dir

I'm using MapR, and I'm looking at the mapred.local.dir parameter. It says this is for intermediate data files, and I assume that means things like merge sets used by the reduce phase. The reason I ask is I have a 12 disk JBOD, which is used by the MapRfs. But the .tmp.dir is pointing to a regular file system drive. Is this the correct way to set this up? Or is MapR actually writing the temp files to the local MapRFS?
