NFS gateway service down

Question asked by parham on Aug 7, 2012
This is not so much of a question that is an answer to an issue that i just found out the solution to... the answer is kind of actually scattered in a couple different post here.

so the problem was that when trying to start the NFS gateway services from the web control system (MapR CS) the services would appear to be up momentary and then they would go down again. Also there would be no /opt/mapr/logs/nfsserver.log file generated. And when trying to start the mapr-nfsserver service from a terminal the following error would be displayed:

> /etc/init.d/mapr-nfsserver start

> Make sure rpcinfo/portmap is installed and/or run service portmap start

so the solution is pretty obvious from the error above. portmap service was not installed. here's how to solve the issue, try running the following two commands:

> yum -y install portmap.x86_64

> /etc/init.d/portmap start

> /etc/init.d/mapr-nfsserver start

hope this helps for others!
