Container revisited.

Do containers contain blocks from disparate files or do they contain blocks of a single file? Is replication at the container level or the file level? The reason for the latter question is that if a file f1 is replicated 5 times and file f2 is replicated 3 times there could be a possibility that their blocks land up in the same container, if containers hold blocks from disparate files. If that is the case how could you get by block reports at some level to determine if the blocks of f1 or f2 are under replicated? If I am being vague I apologize upfront and more than happy to repost the question.
