mapr stuck on high nfs throughput

I've encountered two cases where i'm writing alot of files to a mapr-volume via nfs. after a short time the nfs mount stops responding, i'm unable to unmount or stop the mapr-nfsserver. i'm also unable to access the mapr web interace. when doing top I see that the wa is very high(25%), but no process seems to be using cpu and when doing iotop no process is doing any io. i'm unable to kill -9 the nfsserver.

I'm running in a single node mode.
