More general documentation integrated MapR-DB + Hive tables?

Is there more generalized documentation on Hive-MapR-DB tables? Looking at what docs I could find on the topic (Getting Started with Hive and MapR-DB Integration) they only give a simple example. Eg. looking at the section on creating these integrated tables, they provide the example code

hive> CREATE TABLE mapr_table_1(key int, value string)     > STORED BY 'org.apache.hadoop.hive.hbase.HBaseStorageHandler'     > WITH SERDEPROPERTIES ("hbase.columns.mapping" = ":key,cf1:val")     > TBLPROPERTIES ("hbase.table.name" = "/user/mapr/xyz");

I have several questions about this.

  1. What determines what the hbase.columns.mapping value is? I don't see what the general rule is about how the hive table columns in the first line correspond to the comma-delimited string value in the 3rd line.
  2. If the TBLPROPERTIES hbase.table.name is not set, where is the table file stored?
