Drill - Metadata Cache

When you cache the metadata for a file in Drill like this:

REFRESH TABLE METADATA dfs.`/path/file.parquet`

does it apply to the current connection, or to the actual drill-bits themselves (i.e. across all connections)?

I'd like to replace parquet files/tables with newer versions that may have different schemas and I'm wondering if that would confuse drill as it had cached old metadata in existing connections.
