Settup connectivity to Hive using SQuirreL

I am trying to setup connectivity to MapR using SQuirreL SQL Client.

We used the standalone jar, we got the below error:

No resource found for key ConnectToAliasCommand.error.driver

class java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.hadoop.conf.Configuration

This configuration class is present in Hadoop common.

The only version of haddop-common that I can find was hadoop-common-2.7.0-mapr-1703.

When I try to use this jar, I am getting the below error.

Unexpected Error occurred attempting to open an SQL connection.

class java.lang.RuntimeException: Illegal Hadoop Version: Unknown (expected A.B.* format)

I believe it is because, hive jar file is of version “hive-jdbc-2.1.1-mapr-1703-standalone”  and common is of version “hadoop-common-2.7.0-mapr-1703”

I am getting the exact same error when I use hive-jdbc-2.1.1-mapr-1703 with dependant jars.

I am also getting the same error when I use a different JDBC SQL client – DBVisualiser.

This seems to be a pretty straight forward thing to do. Setup a JDBC connection to Hive.

I must be doing something wrong here.
