Is it possible to create a custom service for the MapR Control System, so I can add it during installation?
You can follow the model of one of the MapR services under warden control to create your own warden-monitored service. Here's an example:
1. touch /opt/mapr/roles/mynewservice
2. create a warden service configuration file /opt/mapr/conf/conf.d/warden.mynewservice.conf (see warden.<servicename>.conf )
3. create the start, stop, and monitor scripts in the locations specified in the conf file above
4. reconfigure warden to pick up the new service
5. start and stop your new service
maprcli node services -action start mynewservice -nodes <node-name>
maprcli node services -action stop mynewservice -nodes <node-name>
Can you please provide more details on what kind of customized services you are looking for? Check out MCS under MapR Management & Monitoring space for more information.
Thank you for the answer! So, my question is if it is possible for me to create a service, which will be available during installation like impala, hue, etc.? I know that there are CSD in Cloudera and "services" in Ambari. Just wonder if it's possible to do something similar in MapR.
So this service will have to know how to start my application on hadoop, stop and monitor health.
Is it possible to do something like this?
If I understand correctly your question, you would like to add a Hadoop ecosystem tool to your running cluster, correct?
In MapR, this is done through the mapr installer. You can add and update versions of your MapR installation.
The MapR Management & Monitoring allows your to review the health of your cluster.
If I understood your question correctly, I suggest you check out MapR Installation & MapR Management & Monitoring spaces for more details and feel free to ask any follow up question.
Hope this helps.
Sorry for not precise explanation of the question.
Let me please clarify. I want to add my own hadoop tool, which is not present in MapR collection of tools (which you can select during installation). Say, I want to add some service, which will launch an application in yarn. But this yarn application if written by me and not present in MapR. Is it possible to describe my custom service and add to the list of services which are available for installation (on my local setup)?
After a brief look, I didn't find this information in the guide. Is it possible to do it?
Thank you for the help!
I see now, thank you for explaining further. I am pretty sure this can be done but I've never done it myself, so I'll have to "Call a Friend" .
james, this seems like something you would have experienced before, can you help?
Thanks a lot! This is exactly what I need!
