Hi, I have added a sample user on the my two node cluster (on EMR) using "useradd comand in linux"..but when I go to webserver in mapr cluster (user disk storage section), I dont see any user and there is just "hadoop" user
The "User Disk Usage" section lists quota information for users who are assigned as accountable entities to at least one volume. The accountable entity is basically the user who is "charged" for the space used by the volume. So before your new user will show up here, you'll need to create or edit a volume, and assign them as the accountable entity.
The "hadoop" user is the default accountable entity for all volumes, if it hasn't been changed, which is why you are seeing that user listed.
To assign an accountable entity to a volume, click a volume name to open its properties. In the "Volume Information" section of that screen, at the bottom, you will see a field to assign the accountable entity.
Hi, Thanks for the reply, I actually want to create a volume for a guest user which just the user can mange that (access the pyhiscal path on the cluster node) not others ..but whenever I create a volume, the owner would be the "hadoop" while I choose the accountable entity to my guest user, i want the owner have a read-only access and cant change the permission for accessing the directory either..shroud I do them in Linux environment?
Do you want the guest user to be able to manage the volume (for example, dump or restore the volume, edit volume properties, etc.), or do you want the user to be able to read/write data to the volume?
If you want the guest user to have read/write/execute permissions on the volume (and directories in the volume), you can change the permissions and/or ownership in the Linux environment. If the standard POSIX file permissions are not granular enough, you can create ACEs (Access Control Expressions) that can define more granular access.
Lesson 8 in ADM 202 has a good lab on setting permissions - it walks you through changing things at the OS and the MapR level to see how changes affect a user's ability to access the volume. Here are some other resources that might help:
