what base environment of centos should i install ? should i go to minimal?
That's a good question.
First assumption... these are cluster nodes that are purposely built for being in a cluster....
1) You're not running any of the GUI stuff
2) You're not running any of the developer stuff (although it could come in handy)
2b) You're probably going to bring down your own copies of Java , Scala , etc ...
3) You're not running any of the server services (FTP, LDAP, Mail, etc ... )
So I'd say stick with the basics and you could always add the packages and dependencies on as needed.
(yum is your friend along with RPMs. )
I don't know if you can do this with Centos, but with RHat, you can create a golden image and then use that to build the other machines in your cluster. That would help if you're building a decent sized cluster...
You can find node requirements (including supported OS versions, as well as what software and resources are required) in our documentation here: Preparing each Node
I think he's asking about which options to use when installing Centos. There are a couple of major config choices which you can then drill down in to and select / deselect specific packages.
exactly ! thank you very much
