For freshers to understand about Map R, is it good to start with MapR 5.0 and than upgrade to MapR 5.1? or Directly start with Map R 5.1?
Hi Sai Attaluri,
One of the biggest differences between MapR 5.0 and MapR 5.1 is that 5.1 introduced MapR Streams. If you are totally new to big data and Hadoop, I recommend starting with our free online training ESS 100 – Introduction to Big Data and ESS 101 – Apache Hadoop Essentials. Soon, we will also release ESS 102, which is an introduction to the MapR Converged Data Platform, including MapR Streams.
I have already completed ESS 100 and ESS 101. I am also reading again and again to understand the fundamentals thoroughly. In Map R 5.0 documentation, I see a different architecture diagram when compared with version 5.1. The diagram of 5.0 has all the components while not in 5.1. So I was little confused!!!
Sai Attaluri can you provide a link or screenshot to the diagrams you are referring to?
Also, I hope that ESS 102, which will be released soon, can help answer some of your questions! Check back with MapR Academy next week!

Now I see which architecture diagrams you are referring to! One of the reasons the architecture is different is that MapR Streams provides a message bus which helps integrate all the different components in the Converged Data Platform. The basics of how to use all the features, tools, and components remains the same in both 5.0 and 5.1.
You can learn more about MapR Streams in our course DEV 350 - MapR Streams Essentials. You can also learn more about the MapR Converged Data Platform in our upcoming course, ESS 102. Stay tuned for the release announcement for this new course!
ESS102 is already available in pdf ESS1000_Slide Guide. Thanks for your support.
