HDFS Vs MFS

As per my understanding with the tutorials, standard HDFS does not allow to modify data inside the cluster. It needs to moved to local system, modify it and put it back to the cluster. However, in MapR FS, read / write, overwrite modifications within the cluster is allowed.

What advantages you see when compared with standard HDFS methodology and MapR methodology of allowing read / write and overwrite functionality? Is there any vulnerability with this?
