What are pre-configuration things have to check for upgrading the MapR and maintaining high availability from 3 node M3 Community to 5 Node M5 MapR Enterprise edition?
Anil Kumar Upputuri V V What I am getting to understand from your statements is that you've somehow tied the numbers seen in the license (M3, M5, etc.) to the number of nodes in the cluster. If so, it is not so.
Going by that, a 3-nodes cluster on being added with an additional 2-nodes to take the total to 5- nodes would not mean that the cluster has upgraded its license from M3 to M5. It is still simply a 5-nodes cluster with M3 license. You could even have a 3-nodes cluster with an M5 license applied.
You need to purchase and apply an M5 license separately to upgrade the license on the cluster. Hope that answers your question.
Mufeed Usman: Do we have a KB article we can provide for this transition?
Anil Kumar Upputuri V V Pardon me, but I was unable to place your query in the right slot. Were you referring to having the cluster up and running while transitioning from Community Edition to Enterprise Edition or was it more along the lines of how to get this into place?
If the latter, then it's only a matter of having the correct license installed. Post that, you should be able to have HA (from CLDB perspective) by installing more than one CLDB and not having to worry about fail-over management.
Mufeed Usman, yeah we are having 3 Node M3 cluster and we want to add two more machines to the existing and to maintain M5 Edition.
how can i achieve this with out disturbing the Existing 3 Node M3
Anil Kumar Upputuri V V You cannot maintain two licenses in the same cluster. Either you can have a 5-nodes Community Edition (M3) or a 5-nodes Enterprise Edition (M5) cluster. Not a mix of 3-nodes Community Edition (M3) and 2-nodes Enterprise Edition (M5).
Please let me know if I have not understood your requirement clearly.
For better understanding
we are having 3 Node - M3 MapR installed with license in our premises. We want to Add 2 more nodes to the existing M3 and to make it M5.
Is it possible or Not ?
if we add 2 nodes to existing 3 Node- M3-MapR can it become M5- 5 Node Enterprise cluster? or it is different ?
Thank you for quick response :-) . Yeah i understand it now clearly.
You're welcome. Glad to be of assistance Anil Kumar Upputuri V V . Looking forward to seeing more queries from you in the Community.
