I would like to make my question little more clear from in terms of Type of data that it particularly supports comparing to data lake.

Supportive Understanding for question and its Background:
I got this question come in my mind when we tried to build the Enterprise Data lake in our office.
Based on my knowledge in Big Data we can create data lake in ways. One is for domain specific data lake for different domains like finance, banking, insurance depends on the type of domain-specific data. Another one is for All type of data irrespective of domain specific data. we can call this one as Enterprise Data lake.So the pre-processing steps will come into place to deal with this type of data.
I second Tug Grall. Data lake is a concept and the most common starting point for a Hadoop use case. Typically data lakes help offload either data or ETL workloads from a data warehouse to Hadoop. Over time as more data and use cases get identified the data lake evolves.
The benefits of the MapR platform enable data lakes to be enterprise ready from day one.
Data lake is not only the common starting point for a Hadoop use case. Its holistic view of Hadoop with more of enterprise features like Search,Querying, ELT and Security and Governance.
The point mentioned by Sameer Nori regarding data lake evolution is valid, because Hadoop being matured stage and daily so many new components are coming to give more performance to this Hadoop frame work.
