Drill can't see MapR-DB tables

Running Mapr 5.1.1, Drill 1.6.0. Successfully created and populated a MapR-DB JSON table via the Java API. now I need some tool to query the database and test my importer. So I installed Drill. Running from the Web interface, the only query that works so far is " show databases", which shows no sign of my table which is in /apps/bro. The table is visible in MCS after I added it.

I searched for help and see others with the same or similar problem, and tried dropping my JDK to 1.7.0 to no avail. I suspect the config of my dfs storage plugin. Can someone tell me what this needs to contain to access my table in /apps/bro?

And what syntax to use in the Drill web interface for:

SELECT * FROM [table @ /apps/bro] LIMIT 10;

Thanks
