Basic Usage & Troubleshooting

  • Prerequisites

    • Before starting check to make sure you meet the prerequisites.

  1. You are running a supported OS (Operating System Support Matrix )
  2. You are using an OS that supports the MapR installer (MapR Installer Support Matrix )
  3. The node you run the installer on has SSH access to all other nodes that you want to be part of your cluster.
  4. You have internet connectivity.
  5. Port 9443 or the non-default port you will specify when running mapr-setup.sh is accessable by all nodes in the cluster (including the client that is accessing the installer)
  6. Valid hostname set. Hostname in  /etc/hosts or DNS (make sure that both forward and reverse lookup of ip/hostname result in same tuple).
  7. Nodes have a minimum of 8GB of RAM each.
  8. Nodes should have at least one disk for MapR-FS.
  9. For detailed prerequisites follow this link: MapR Installer Prerequisites and Guidelines

  • Getting the installer

    • To get the most recent mapr-setup.sh

        • Troubleshooting

            • MapR Setup

              • ERROR: Hostname (<hostname>) cannot be resolved. Correct the problem and re-run mapr-setup.sh
                • Make sure your hostname is set and is present in the hosts file.
            • Installer

              • I have  “SSL invalid”, “Your connection is not private”, “There is a problem with this website’s security certificate”, or similar.
                • You can ignore these warnings. Look for a button/link that says “Proceed anyway”,”Continue anyway”,”Continue to this website”, etc.
              • Node verification failed (Failed host says “Host unreachable).
                • Make sure you provided the correct login credentials / key on the Configure Nodes page.
                • Double check that you have met the prerequisites.
                • If you can not find the issue check for answers on: community.mapr.com or m5/m7 customers can contact support: support@mapr.com
              • Nodes have warnings
                • You can still continue the install.
              • Installing MapR

                • If you followed the prerequisites it will be unlikely that you will run into an issue. If you do it may be more a more advanced issue.
                  • If you do not know the solution check for answers on: community.mapr.com or m5/m7 customers can contact support: support@mapr.com
                  • Look in /opt/mapr/installer/logs/<Hostname>.log for more information.
