ABOUT THE EVENT
ACM Pittsburgh is a non-profit professional group that meets regularly to discuss diverse topics in computer science such as predictive analytics, applied machine learning, statistical modeling, open data, data visualization, user experience, user research, and artificial neural networks. Meeting topics are varied and range from tutorials on basic concepts and their applications, to success stories from local practitioners and academic students, to discussions of tools, new technologies, and best practices.
The meetup will take place at Boccato Gelato located in Arlington’s Clarendon neighborhood. Check out all the fabulous Boccato menu items available at http://gelatoarlingtonva.wix.com/boccato. Boccato is also home to CoWorkCafe (www.coworkcafe.com). CoworkCafe is designed for people who typically work from home and offers an alternative to the home office in the casual setting of the neighborhood coffee shop.
- Is Spark replacing Map Reduce? - Keys Botzum Senior Principal Technologist at MapR
Keys will address the growing chatter on Spark replacing Hadoop. When should you use Spark standalone versus using it along with Hadoop? How will this evolve over time? For new use cases, is it simply better to skip Hadoop and jump to Spark? Through the lens of real customer case studies, Keys’s talk will discover the characteristics of a successful Spark deployment and where Hadoop and Spark compete and complement.
