Setting up your profile is the first step to becoming active in the MapR Community. Your user profile provides other community members with an easy way to learn about your experience, skills, and interests. Your profile shows up in search results when other members search for keywords contained in your profile. You can update your information at any time.
1. Create a MapR Account
Most of the content in the community is public and accessible without logging in. However, if you want to ask or answer questions, like content or share ideas, you must create a MapR Account and log in. A MapR Account allows you to seamlessly log into many MapR applications (MapR Community, MapR Academy courses, Premium Support Customer Portal, and product downloads).
2. Update your MapR Community Profile with a Photo and Biography
Help community members connect with you more easily by sharing your photo and biography. Good profiles make for good connections. Click on your avatar image in the upper right hand corner of the community. Click on Edit Profile.
a) Edit Profile > Avatar & Photos. Upload a profile photo and make your Avatar the same photo. The Avatar picture appears next to your activity in the community and lets community members quickly associate your comments and activity with a simple visual cue. b) Edit Profile > Your Profile > Biography. Click on the Your Profile tab to create a Biography that will help people learn about your background, interests and more. The other profile fields are managed in yourMapR Account.
3. Review Your Privacy Settings
Edit Profile > Privacy. You have control over who can see certain profile fields. By default, the only information about you that appears on your profile is your User Name. See default privacy settings.
We encourage you to change the privacy settings to share your job title, city, state, country, company and anything else that will help others connect with you.
4. Add Skills and Expertise
Adding skills and expertise to your profile will help people find you when they search for a particular topic, such as drill, spark or security.
a) To add skills and expertise, go to your profile by clicking on your avatar image in the upper right hand corner of the community.
b) Click on View Profile and then click on New Skill.
c) Type in your skills and expertise and select the tags that apply. Create a new skill if it doesn't already exist.
