When creating a remote mirror volume using the MapR Control System (MCS) or the maprcli volume create command the operation may fail with an 'Invalid argument error'.  Ex:

# maprcli volume create -name mirror -path /destination -type mirror -source source@rhl
ERROR (10003) -  Volume create mirror failed, Invalid argument

When using the MCS the error appears as follows:

Errors detected
4:9:55 PM - Volume create mirror failed, Invalid argument

As required /opt/mapr/conf/mapr-clusters.conf on the webserver node and on the node where maprcli volume create is run contains an entry for the remote cluster 'rhl'.  Ex:

# cat /opt/mapr/conf/mapr-clusters.conf
my.cluster.com secure=false 192.168.1.1:7222 192.168.1.2:7222
rhl secure=false 10.10.10.1:7222

However the definition for the remote cluster 'rhl' is missing on the CLDB nodes and the following errors are seen in /opt/mapr/logs/cldb.log on the master CLDB:

2015-02-09 16:03:00,683 ERROR CLDBRpcCommonUtils [RPC-4]: Unable to reach cluster with name: rhl.
No entry found in file /conf/mapr-clusters.conf for cluster rhl. Failing the CLDB RPC with status 133
2015-02-09 16:03:55,785 ERROR CLDBRpcCommonUtils [RPC-10]: Unable to reach cluster with name: rhl.
No entry found in file /conf/mapr-clusters.conf for cluster rhl. Failing the CLDB RPC with status 133

To resolve this issue add the necessary entry for the remote cluster to /opt/mapr/conf/mapr-clusters.conf on all CLDB nodes in the destination cluster.  The change will be picked up automatically by the CLDB and no restart of the cluster services is required.  Consult the documentation for mapr-clusters.conf at http://doc.mapr.com/display/MapR/mapr-clusters.conf for more information on the correct syntax for the cluster definition. Once the remote cluster definition is in place re-run the mirror create operation using the MCS or maprcli volume create and it should now be successful.

If you continue to see failures with volume creation after following the above please contact MapR Support at support@mapr.com or by opening a case using the Support Portal.  Gather a support-dump from the master CLDB in the destination cluster and from the webserver node if using the MCS to create the remote mirror volume and provide the output file(s) to MapR Support.
